DAMN THIS SITE

Damn this site!
And your seductive signs
That keep me glued to your side
And oblivious of the time
I've wasted in your confine.

Damn this site!
For everything I've
Seems lost in the mist of time
Due to your guise
Of social vibe.

Damn this site!
And it's hype
Even the lads
And the guyz
Become entangle
Like a stripe
To the major's arm.

Damn this site!!
My freedom I must prise
Out of this site
And make hay while the sun shines.

WE ARE HERE AGAIN

We are here again in our multitudes;
Rich, poor, men and women, matched to the polls
Poised to exercise our rights
We stand outside the brimming sun;
As it beats the hairy and bald headed.

We are here again
Our muscles weakened out
With stretch marks of hunger slapping our backs
A thing to show for our leaders abandonement
Which aggravates our predicaments.

Now we must prove our essence
As power rests with the electorates.

We are here again
In hopeful hopelessness
To put an end to politics of wits
And make way for politics of ideals.

We are here again
Greeted by a dawn of new day
To cripple the uncivilized rule
Even our soar throats mumur in desperation for change
To rescue our nation from iminent doom.

We are here again
Even as the rain pours on us
Clapping the roof of our hearts.

Oh we are here again
Though our future lies at stake
Still we shall sing on-
A song of change.

MESSENGERS OF DOOM

What a heartless heart you posses!
Digging deep into the purview of our blossomness
Without conscience of the aftermath you caused
To this little fragile generations

Our days shadowed with uncertainties
As we glimmer in hopeless trepidation
We know not when you'll embark on your hunting spree
Or who next you'll hunt to the hungry grave
For us to lay lo in preparation.

Like a trailing shadow behind
Still apprehensive of your scar lately
Where we matched to confine of bereavement
As shattered into the circle of desolation
Of our loved ones kissing the world goodbye.

Oh wicked messengers of doom
Parading our lives like flume
With endless plaguing threshold
Many say they are signs of end time
And now we know what it's like.

- In the spirit of the passing away of the four ALUU students. May the soul of the departed rest in peace.

THE MAGNIFICENT GOD

I knelt down in the presence of your Lordship
Honour and praises I atoned in your worship
Though the land is dining in hardship
In the face of misharps, I'll always worship.

A sinner is not worthy of your forgiveness
Yet, you stretched your hands in loving-kindness
A magnificent God indeed!
Who brought us from our misdeeds.

Oh Great Father in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
In the wake of men of the underworld
My eyes fixed heavenwards.

Though poverty-stricken, disunity amongst brothers,
And sisthers
But your mercy is sufficient for all
What a magnificent God!
In your light, we shine.

A SINGLE DROP OF RAIN

In the balmy air of the twilight
My body and soul adventured
With a damp which promises of rain
The hurly-burly of the city seemed to be trapped in its closet.

I stepped out from the comfort of my bed
My hands flatly stretched and as hope smiled at me
A single drop of rain fell on my hands
And it glitters like the tears of love
Those usually expressed through your eyes.

With a single drop of rain
I felt catapulted into a whirlwind of tour
A tour of fame and glory second to non
One not to return from, any sooner.

How I wish all days can be promising as this friendly weather
But life is not always rosy
While caught up in my worries
A single drop of rain can make a difference
A lasting one like the coolness of your kiss on my lips.

THE DARK CONTINENT

I travelled north, south, west and east of the world
Still I can't find the Dark Continent
If it exists, perhaps I can only decipher the meaning of the word
And hope it create the image in the heart.

In primitive era, it lived unconcious of the outside world
Until they invaded its territory-

Culture and style they inherited from it
Slavery and civilization it shook hands with
A sweetbitter story, now tales to its offsprings
Suffering and smiling, what few wise called it
To the fools,'Out of Dark Age', they herald it.

Institutions and laws were imposed
Wealth and resources were controled
Till the Dark Continent lost its interest
Then the outside world left it in distress.

Of course, in the dark age they met it.
Dark Continent-Striving to see the light shine on it
Forgetting its shadow will always trail behind.

NIGERIA AT 52YEARS AFTER

Like a misled adventurer in search of the golden fleece
On this path, Nigeria was made to venture
As concocted by the pleasure
of her colonial masters

As the hey days tribulation beckoned
She was strengthened with passion and agility to endure
But as her offsprings cohered their
aggressions
And Union Jack came to reckon
Behold- as Nigeria admiringly embraced liberation!

Independence- the virginity of Nigeria
Crowned the labours of her heroes past
But while basking in her virginity euphoria
Was stabbed aback by ruthless despots of the time.

Alas!
Eclipsed in the shackles of Corruption-
The aroma of hope and suffering filled our hungry hearts.

Only must we brace ourselves for oppression
As being deprived of our national cake
Wallowing down the gullet of our political liars
Our destiny only we must make
Before this rain of hope finally fades.

Nigeria at 52 years after, still on the journey
A journey retarded by her infant democracy daunting
Perhaps compromised by the masked shadows-
who have tainted the honour in her bone marrow.

What an illusional state we nourished
A result of the looming storm that flourished!

Today we stand feebly as one
Our foes in merriment
and mockery-
Where do our pasture lies?
-
In the spirit of the celebration of 'Nigeria's 52 years Independence' from Union Jack.
